Consultation

The aim of your first consultation with Dr Naveen Somia is to discuss your concerns and recommend the options available for treatment and solution. As there is a great deal to discuss during this consultation we highly recommend that you bring a family member or friend.

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A referral from your general practitioner enables you to claim a portion of your consultation fee from Medicare. In some cases you may be able to claim a portion of your surgery fees from both Medicare and your health fund (where an applicable level of cover is held). Medicare and health care fund rebates are available on procedures attracting a Medicare item number.

What is the cost and duration of the consultation?

An initial consultation fee is $280 (rebate $72.75). Payment is required on booking. We accept all major credit cards, EFT, cash and electronic transfer.   A receipt will be issued at your consultation for claiming purposes. An initial consultation usually takes between 30-45 minutes. If you decide to proceed with surgery an additional pre-operative consultation is included in the initial consultation fee.

How can I prepare for the consultation?

Being well-informed ahead of the consultation helps you to actively participate in the discussion during the consultative process. We highly recommend exploring our website for the options available. If your consultation relates to eyelid, face, neck or nose surgeries please bring an older photograph. A professional wedding picture or similar close-up of your face is best. Bring any tests or x-rays with you.

What will happen during the consultation?

Dr Somia will ask questions pertaining to your goals and health to minimise the risk and optimise your results. Dr Somia will then examine and evaluate you and offer a personalised recommendation. Clinical photographs will be taken as part of your confidential medical record. Information on the procedure and the costs involved will be given. You will have ample opportunity to ask questions.

Surgery

Before surgery we highly recommend two consultations to give you sufficient opportunity to have your questions answered and to explore your options further. At the end of these consultations you will have enough information to help you make a confident and well-informed decision.

I'm having Cosmetic Surgery. What now?

Once you have decided to proceed with surgery, we will co-ordinate a date that best fits in with you. Following surgery date confirmation we will arrange your hospital admission pack including admission forms, informed consent, pre-operative testing, pre and post operative instructions and any implant/surgical garment required. Pre-payment of all surgical fees are required in full, one week before surgery.

Do I need to do anything special before surgery?

Prior to your surgery you should eat plenty of vitamin C “colourful” based fruits and vegetables, cease smoking and maintain a healthy lifestyle to assist healing. Aspirin, anti-inflammatory and herbal medications including fish oil should be stopped one week before to surgery.  Patients on Warfarin, Plavix or Asterix, along with diabetic patients, will be given special instructions prior to surgery. "

The day before and the day of Cosmetic Surgery

The Admissions Department at the hospital will advise what time to arrive at the hospital, what to bring and when to fast.  The day before surgery do not smoke or drink alcohol. On the day of surgery you will meet with the anaesthetist. You will need to organise someone to drive you home from the hospital when you are discharged.

Once I am at home what should I do?

You will be given post operative instructions before your surgery and on your discharge.  Follow these instructions closely. You will usually see Dr Somia again for your first post operative visit 5-7 days after your procedure. At this appointment, your wounds will be checked and any non-dissolving stitches removed. You will be given additional advice on wound management and scar optimisation.
