There are many popular treatments and procedures to rejuvenate and beautify your lips.
Treatment for anti ageing lip care usually involves a combination of volume replacement using dermal fillers or fat and skin rejuvenation procedures using laser, dermabrasion and chemical peels. Dermal fillers are used to achieve fuller, protruding lips.
Although obvious ageing of the lips is well known, the scientific evaluation of the ageing process is a recent trend. Plastic surgeons from Freiburg, Germany, studied the microscopic structure and architecture of young lips versus ageing lips. They concluded that the following features are noticeable in an ageing lip:
- Lengthening of the upper lip
- Thinning of the lip
- Redistribution of volume giving an impression of volume loss
- Thinning of the dermis of the skin
- Fragmented collagen fibres in the dermis of the skin
- Increase in the subcutaneous fat in the lip
Understanding changes of the ageing lip is essential for your practitioner to successfully rejuvenate the lip. Failure to understand these changes often leads to overcorrection resulting in the classic ‘trout put’ or ‘fish mouth’ look.
